The Trinity campus closed today, in line with other universities and schools throughout the area. Frigid temperatures, snow, and ice created hazardous conditions throughout Texas. Above, note the iced over Miller Fountain in the center of campus. Bid Day, when new students find out about their invitation to fraternities and sororities, was planned for today, but postponed until tomorrow. This is certainly disappointing to active members and those awaiting bids. The Crisis Management Team cancelled all scheduled activities. See the slide show at right for bid day from two years ago. By waiting for warmer weather tomorrow, hopefully there can be a safe and enthusiastic celebration.Pictured below is the acequia at Northrup Hall, also frozen, and with light snow in the background. I was buried in snow up in Platteville Wisconsin! But I live here now for a reason.
Your administration's decision to postpone Bid Day at 9 a.m. was absolutely absurd. You had until 3 p.m. to make a decision, and conveniently you postpone the afternoon's event when the weather is better than it has been all week. In my years of being at Trinity, your administration has never cancelled classes for inclement weather. Do you remember that squall last semester when rooms were flooding and your staff still had not fixed the hot water on campus? Or, do you remember two years ago when there was that hurricane and we still had to attend classes? Your decision making as an administration has proved to be as inept as the person who wrote the article praising your staff for the inability to fix our hot water. The problem, this time, is that you've diverged from traditions that we as Trinity Greeks have come to know. It's no secret that you dislike Greek Life at Trinity, but for those who are Greek, Bid Day and the events that take place are meaningful to us and our alumni. So, thank you for screwing with tradition, and we'll all assume that you'll be adding an extra day to the mandated pledging period to make up for today.
Postponing bid day is not a crisis. I'm sure everyone can deal with a one day delay.
Snow day! Family up north would shake their heads, but ya know San Antonio does not have plows or salt trucks.
Postponing Bid Day being absurd compared to the safety of your fellow Greeks is mind blowing. I would hope you would not want a wreck or other accident to ruin what should be a fun and exciting day for you guys (I've experienced a wreck on a very important day, and yes, it really does kill the mood). Granted complaining about Hot Water just upsets me further. Consider yourself lucky you had water, a little roughing it really doesn't hurt anyone. Might be eye opening for a change.

Great photos! As for postponing Bid Day, it was one of my favorite days each year and still holds a special place in my heart as a Greek Alum. With that said, however, I do think it was a safety call to postpone it and hope that the headache of rescheduling things, etc. doesn't cause Greeks to lose focus on what makes the day great!
Thanks Fleo. NF, I appreciate your perspective. I want you to know that the alumni, the Greek Council, and the administration have been working hard all year to improve our relationship and to make lasting positive changes for greek life to be sustained here in the long run. Watch for more on this in the next several months when we report on our progress. i am very encouraged.
Wow, NF, chill out. Does it really matter if Bid Day is postponed by a little bit? I'm sure it hasn't thrown the whole thing into crisis mode. And as for the "hurricane" two years ago, that hit Houston ok? I should know, my parents' house got hit about 10 times worse than anything we got here that day. We got a shower or two out of it, that's it. There was absolutely no reason whatsoever to cancel classes that day.
I agree completely with the two anonymous posts directly after. It's not a crisis, and keeping an event on the calendar when the weather is potentially hazardous to people involved is completely irresponsible. It's unfortunate timing in that respect, but that's life.
Lighten up, mate. Just enjoy your day off school.
Dean Tuttle: you are way too gracious to NF. NF...go take your meds and wait a day. While safety isn't more important to you than Greek life, try being the person who is liable if slippery ice causes injury. Dean, thank you for the great pictures and having the guts to make a decision that may cause some students to have a psychotic break.
